Tomahawk - Logging Camp |
I arrived at Tomahawk June 1st. For the first few days it was just me, the Rangers, and the Camp Director. I wasn't technically supposed to arrive until the fifth, but I was ready for the summer to begin.

For weeks people had been asking me, "Are you excited for camp to begin?"
Although it may sound odd, I wasn't. I had been preparing for camp for six months, since I had first applied in mid December. My excitement at being hired, as Staff in Jan. and then offered Director in Feb, had long ago petered out. I think I was more anxious than anything. This was the first time I had ever managed anything. I had led groups and activities more times than I could remember, but had never managed the details, concerns, and crisis of an area.* By June 5th (my staff were coming up early to) I had to know or at least pretend I knew what we were supposed to do. |
